The Regulatory Council of the “Sierra de Segura” Denomination of Origin will hold tomorrow, December 12, the tasting-competition to select the best extra virgin olive oils produced in the 2023/2024 campaign by the registered entities. This year the tasting will be held again in Jaén capital, specifically at the University of Jaén (Las Lagunillas Campus), in Building A-3 – Board Room 1st Floor. The event is sponsored by Caja Rural de Jaén.
The jury of the tasting competition are Sebastián Sánchez Villasclaras, professor of Chemical Engineering and director of the Title of Expert in Tasting of Virgin Olive Oils from the University of Jaén; Francisco Carrillo, head of the Tasting Panel of the Granada Laboratory of the Government of Andalusia; Plácido Pascual, head of the Tasting Panel of the Córdoba Laboratory of the Government of Andalusia; Inmaculada Olivares, professor of the Title of Expert in Tasting of Virgin Olive Oils at the University of Jaén; Mari Paz Aguilera, IFAPA researcher and professor of the Expert Title in Tasting Virgin Olive Oils at the University of Jaén and Pedro Vilches, head of the Tasting Panel at the CM Europe laboratory.
The participating oils that will be eligible for the Ardilla Awards are “Fuenroble” from Potosí 10, “Tierras de Tavara Premium” from Oleofer S.L., “Agrosegura Premium” from the S.C.A. Agrosegura, “Orzeoliva Premium” of the S.C.A. Our Lady of the Assumption, “Chorro de Oro ECO Early Harvest” of the S.C.A. Virgen del Campo de Torres de Albanchez, “Saqura” by Jaencoop S.C.A., “Sierra de Génave” by the S.C.A.Sierra de Génave, and “Alquería de Camarillas” by Hermanos Talón.
Later, at 1 p.m., the press conference will be held to announce the name of the winning extra virgin olive oils and will feature the participation of Catalina Madueño, subdelegate of the Government of Spain in Jaén; Mª José Lara, territorial delegate of Sustainability, Environment and Blue Economy; Francisco Javier Lozano, deputy for Promotion and Tourism; Juan Gallego, commercial director of Caja Rural de Jaén and Ángel Sánchez, president of the CRDO “Sierra de Segura”.
